It lights up yellow and I think it's cool. It realy brought a different look to my daughter's Pokemon themed room. I wasn't sure if I was going to like it and it wasn't what I "was looking for", but I'm glad I bought it!! This is for the Pokemon Pikachu Lamp. This type of lamp is really cool with Pikachu as the lamp itself. Light stands about 9". Produces a very good amount of light. The overall yellow color makes the majority of the light yellow, so it doesn't hurt your eyes. Just an overall cool lamp. Uses a standard 110V Electric outlet for power. It bugged the heck out of him indoors, but he barely noticed it while sniffing the great outdoors. Now he's howling at the apartment door and I realize I have created a monster. A good product at a good price This is the perfect harness to use on your cat if you want to train your cat how to walk on a leash. I have, and it's great. Highly recommended by an owner who takes my cat out often to the park for a walk.....and has lots of cars stopping to gawk in the process. My cat loves it. Fantastic product. Kitty doesn't mind having it on at all and it provides much great control and safety than a neck collar. Wish I'd bought it sooner! The pivoting/spiraling featuring for the connector is also great. Never gets on the ground to tangle between the feet. Awesome. I have always used harnesses on my cats because they can't pull them off and not as dangerous as a non breakaway collar. The other harnesses my cats walked funny when first put on but with this they acted like they didn't even know it was on. I have one cat that scratched at all his other collars till they looked like lion manes all shredded up but his one he hasn't touched. I think that the product is ok, unobtrusive and easy to adjust... by my opinion isn't really significant. What matters is that the cat wasn't annoyed by it. He accepted it gracefully and even tried to lick it. A perfect fit, a no-tangle swivel ring and durable nylon distinguish our Size Right! What with so much talent coming into this project from the standpoint of writers, filmmakers, and the voices of some truly cool people, I guess I expected too much. The Nightmare Before Christmas and the printed version of James and the Giant Peach both felt magical to me, and this movie was mostly a big sticky mess in soggy peach form. Sigh. I hate letdowns. Talking about them makes me sound all whiny. Am I being whiny? I dunno. What went wrong here? A lot. This animated behemoth of a production should have been darker in tone and content, and the brooding elements in the Roald Dahl book should not have been toned down just to strike out for a larger audience---which is I think what happened. Well, three stars isn't a total slam, it just means things could've been better. (Particularly those songs!!!) This is a really cute movie! My granddaughters really enjoyed it. A good clean movie. Had always toyed with seeing this flick, so glad my family did. Not only creative story and model animation, but excellent and witty songs. Imaginative tale of a lonely boy transformed to have a fantasy voyage with an eclectic bunch of insects, each portraying a different "character". You need to see this movie. One caution, a few parts may be a bit scary for children under 6. I remembered this movie from when I was a kid and deciced to hunt it down. I'm glad I did. It's not the same as when I was a kid but still a pretty good movie. I work in a learning center and the afterschool kids love it too. Good stuff. I love this movie! The visual may not be a macabre as Nightmare Before Christmas or Corpse's Bride, but the joyful songs by Randy Newman and the story pacing make this a big winner! This is a great film for the family, but there are some scary moments for the younger kids so beware! The DVD transfer is very good. Roald Dahl's modern classic for children becomes a delightful combination of live action and stop-motion animation by the team that madeThe Nightmare Before Christmas: director Henry Selick and producers Tim Burton (Batman) and Denise Di Novi. The story concerns young James (played for real and through voice-overs by Paul Terry), who is orphaned and left in the charge of two cruel aunts (Miriam Margolyes, Joanna Lumley). Rescued by a mysterious fellow (Pete Postlethwaite), James ends up inside a giant peach, drifting over the Atlantic Ocean in the company of a gentleman grasshopper (voiced by Simon Callow), a fast-talking centipede (Richard Dreyfuss), an anxious earthworm (David Thewlis), a matronly ladybug (Jane Leeves), and a sexy spider (Susan Sarandon). The collection of actors and their creepy-crawly alter egos are a delight, especially when some of the song-and-dance numbers (tunes are written by Randy Newman) get everyone going.--Tom Keogh Take a bit out of Disney`s delicious Special Edition of James And The Giant Peach and celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the popular children`s book by Roald Dahl that inspired this imaginative film. After a time, the songs largely start to run together and sound the same. Not a bad album by any means, but certainly not worthy of the praise it receives in this listener's opinion. Trust me, you can skip this one. When I was about 12 or 13 years old I heard a song called Happiness by Elliott Smith, I thought it was the most unique and haunting song I had ever heard, I became obsessed with it, this was when Napster was huge and I didn't have to buy whole album when I liked a song, I never looked into who Elliott Smith was and I assumed, because I had never heard of him, that he was a one hit wonder, a couple of years later I picked this album up on a whim, it shook me up, top to bottom this album was the best thing I had ever heard, his lyrics gave me goosebumps, his music stayed fresh no matter how many times I listened, after searching all my life I had found what I was looking for, and Hapiness wasn't even the best track Today I own all of Elliott's albums and continue to find genius no matter how deep I dig, even the songs that never made it on CD are great, here Elliott has artistic control over orchestras and every track is full of complex and beautiful music, these tracks are mixed very well and are very clean compared to his other CDs, it makes it his easiest album to get into, buy this one first. Steven Paul Smith was born on August 6, 1969 in Omaha. He later changed the name Steven to Elliott. He felt it sounded less "jock-like." I do believe Elliott Smith had a really amazing if not sad and lonely kind of voice. I can feel a bit more uplifting type of mood coming from Elliott Smith's Figure 8, his best and last studio record before he died. Ever since the end of his band Heatmiser, his solo work became more personal and less abrasive. It's hard to imagine at one point he was part of just another small punk/grunge band, who not many have heard of. Many would prefer "Either/Or." Which seems optimistic at times, but kind of sad to me. At this time few singer/songwriters could match Elliott's level of intensity through lo-fi "folk-punk" intimacy. That release sparked interest in the director of Good Will Hunting, Gus Van Sant- who used some of Elliott's songs for his picture. They met while Elliott lived in Portland. Also this exposure proppelled Elliott Smith to major-label status from Kill Rock Stars to Dreamworks. And then came XO in 1998. And Figure 8 in 2000. In my opinion this is his best. It flourishes with rich, multi-layered and more lush tracks. Not as intimate as his earlier solo works w/ the exception of "Everything Means Nothing to Me." This does seem happier though, at least compared to his other works. Definately one of the best solo albums and one of my favorites of this millenium. A wonderful timeless album from one of the better singer/songwriters after those "grunge era" days. My favorites here include: "Son of Sam"- "Junkbond Trader" -"Stupidity Tries" - "Easy Way Out" - "In the Lost&Found" -(for this song Elliott uses the same Abbey Road piano Paul McCartney played on "Penny Lane") Elliott Smith has always been a long time Beatles fan. Even covered their song "Because"- which is on a import of Figure 8. I really do feel he approaches a kind of greatness w/ this almost perfect solo work. I just wish he was still alive creating more. It's just really sad the way Elliott Smith died. Two stab wounds in his chest from a kitchen knife. And I believe the coroner at the time never came to a conclusion whether it was a homicide or a suicide. His death was on October 21 2003. I give Figure 8- 5 stars. It is my favorite Elliott Smith album, if you haven't heard Elliott Smith before you really should give this a listen. Or pick up "Either/Or" if you like a softer sound, but both are essential from him. I would agree with Patrick Burnett's comments from 5 years ago. I recently ended a relationship and Elliott has been on repeat since the summer. His music fits perfectly with those moments where you feel like there is nothing left. But in a way, the beauty behind his music lifts your spirit like nothing else. "Everything Means Nothing To Me" was the first song I ever heard from Elliott just last year and it is a small portion of the brilliance found throughout this whole album. The acoustically amazing "Somebody I Used to Know" and "I Better Be Quiet Now", the very Beatlesque "Pretty Mary K" and "Happiness" are just a few of the standouts in my mind. "Bye" is such a haunting album-ender that gives me chills everytime I hear the echo of the piano. "Figure 8" has such a wide variety of sound that only a musical genius like Elliott Smith could create. His soft angelic voice along with beautiful melodies make this an album that will forever be labeled "perfection" in my mind. Rest in peace Elliott, your spirit lives on. Many "hardcore" Elliott Smith fans seem quick to judge and often pass this record off as "too over-produced", or the lyrics aren't as personal as past records. It couldn't be farther from the truth. This record is the sound of an artist coming into his own, maturing, experimenting. It's still Elliott Smith through and through, there's no doubt about that. Some of the lyrics are a little more abstract- but they just require more patience and repeated listens to truly appreciate. Elliott Smith crafted some of his best works of art on this album. He really accomplished some beautifuly constructed songs. I first heard this album after Either/Or and Self-titled, and my first impression was that it sounded more plugged in, obviously. But upon really listening to the album, it opens up and becomes so much more. Songs like 'Junk Bond Trader' or 'Can't Make A Sound' become amazing pop masterpieces. There are also enough songs similar to Elliott's past minimalist approach, just more polished than before. Smith himself had stated that he didn't prefer big studios with high-tech recording equipment to stripped down efforts, or vice-versa... just that they were two different styles each unique to themselves, and that he enjoyed experimented with both. He really accomplishes that here and it's worth owning. The story of Elliott Smith is well known now: Shy and reclusive indie rocker soars to a Hollywood soundstage and major-label contract. His fans gasped in collective horror when he took a bow at the 1998 Oscars, his hand clasped by Celine Dion. He seemed far too fragile to survive among the sharks and vultures on the corner of Hollywood and Vine. But as his subsequent albumsXOand nowFigure 8show, Smith has weathered the spotlight successfully and is moving ahead with self-assured grace. The beauty ofFigure 8is that it encompasses Smith's musical virtues, from the stark and wispy tunes of his lo-fi beginnings onRoman Candleto the orchestrated, Beatlesesque pomp and circumstance of later work to the intimate and sometimes painful nature of his live shows.Figure 8's opener, "Son of Sam," is as good as anything Smith has ever crafted, its soaring melody buoyed with lush instrumentation and a tin-pan-alley piano romp. "Happiness" is vintage Smith, its lyrics belying the title. But best of all are "Everything Reminds Me of Her" and "Everything Means Nothing to Me," which capture the dichotomies of Smith's music. The first is a lovely, delicate little tune--just Smith's wavering voice, a plucked guitar, and the plaintive lyrics of unabashed longing. The second is a layered soundscape, heavily produced, with washes of music covering a repeated lyrical line. One is direct, naked, and honest; the other is slippery, distant, and rational. These are the yin and yang of Smith's music, and it's the friction between the two--or, more accurately, the wreckage from one obdurate truth bashing up against the other--that makesFigure 8resonate with such devastating power.--Tod Nelson Rerations < Figure 8 > < XO > < Either/Or > < Elliott Smith > < From a Basement on the Hill > freaks < Assassins (2004 Broadway Revival Cast) > < Spring Awakening (2006 Original Broadway Cast) > < Assassins (1991 Original Off-Broadway Cast) > < Company (2006 Broadway Revival Cast) > < Sweeney Todd (2005 Broadway Revival Cast) > < Curtains (2007 Original Broadway Cast) > Stephen Sondheim,Neil Patrick Harris,Marc Kudisch,Michael Cerveris,Denis O'Hare,James Barbour price:P.S. In 2001 it was decided to re-mount the show in New York, this time on Broadway, but the events of 9/11 prompted the producers to put it off for another three years until feelings were less raw about national tragedies. In many ways this is a much more successful re-mounting of the show than the original off-Broadway production: the orchestrations are much richer and more clever, and allow for more texture to the entirety. Moreover, this version retains the song added during the London run of the musical, "Something Just broke," which shows the shock and horror of ordinary US citizens when they heard of the four successful presidential assassinations (of Lincoln, Garfield, McKinley, and Kennedy), which may7 not be musically the most beautiful song Stephen Sondheim has ever written but which is absolutely necessary to convey the repercussions of what the assassins have done. In the original production, Oswald's assassination of Kennedy was treated as more important and more devastating than the assassinations of Garfield and McKinley (and perhaps even of Lincoln), a sentimental choice which may have reflected the personal experience of Sondheim and his collaborator James Lapine but which seemed to work strongly against the transhistorical perspective of the musical (which has all the assassins existing and committing their crimes in near simultaneity). Here all the assassinations are treated as devastating, which seems much more in keeping with the show's intentions and seems much fairer to the memories of those who lived in the time of Garfield and McKinley. The best thing about this show is it offers a wonderful showcase for singing actors to show their stuff as the assassins and as their two provocateurs and commentators, the Proprietor and the Balladeer (who later morphs into Lee Harvey Oswald). The cast here features several absolutely splendid singers, led by Marc Kudisch (in glorious voice as the Proprietor), Michael Cerveris (who won a Tony Award for his sweet-voiced portrayal of John Wilkes Booth), Jeffrey Kuhn (as Giuseppe Zangara, the explosively furious unsuccessful assassin of FDR) and Neil Patrick Harris (as the Balladeer/Lee Harvey Oswald). Equally strong is Denis O'Hare, who gives an adorably optimistic and scruffy voice (somewhat reminiscent of Paul Winchell's Tigger for the Disney films) to Charles Guiteau, the assassin of Garfield. Assassins is another one of those uncoventional musicals by Stephen Sondheim. Brilliant in its musical execution but lacking in the kind of heart one often seeks from musical theater. That said, it really does offer a lot of mind fodder as it explores the psyches of those who have attempted to assassinate America's chief executive officers throughout history. You'll be perversely pleased by Sondheim's zesty wit as displayed in the overly cheerful, sweet as candy songs. But soon his saccharin tone leaves you feelin' a bit bitter in the stomach as you try to digest the fact that we are talking something as serious as taking the life of another. Not sure this is palatable for all. But if you want something that makes you think, something that plumbs the playhouse's darker corners, you'll get some kick out of Assassins. Suggested for mature musical hounds. Well I was really looking forward to this recording because it has "SOMETHING JUST BROKE," unfortunately they left out major parts of the dialogue of the Lee Harvey Oswald scene. That was a real disappointment. Neil Patrick Harris was very good in the show and in the recording as well. This is a great recording of the show. The singers on this recording are more pleasant to listen too than the original cast recording. Assassins is a masterpiece of American theatre. Through a revue of skits and songs, it examines ideas we don't want to face, and shows us the flip side of the American Dream. The score rates as one of Sondheim's best, and the overall effect, when the show is performed well, is incredibly powerful. For years, people have wanted to mount a production on Broadway. Given this result, they needn't have bothered. I am still amazed at how much this production got wrong. The principal cast is nothing short of dreadful: the acting is almost laughably overwrought; the pacing keeps getting disrupted by pauses held too long and lines spoken too slowly; some singers are frequently behind the tempo (notably Michael Ceveris as Booth), while others are painful to listen to (like Jeffrey Kuhn as Zangara and Mario Cantone as Sam Byck); the new orchestrations allow for more musicians in the pit, but are much less effective than the earlier arrangements. To top it all off, this production includes "Something Just Broke", a song sung by the Ensemble as various "average" Americans of different time periods recalling where they were when the president was shot. The song was introduced in the London production, presumably for people who didn't understand the show to have something to latch on to, but it was mercifully kept out of the published vocal score and libretto. It's not a bad song in and of itself, but musically it does not fit in with the rest of the score, and dramatically it doesn't fit in with the rest of the script. Worse, it is placed right between the Kennedy assassination -- the climax of the show -- and the finale, thus skewing all the dramatic momentum and depriving the show of an effective resolution. The result of all this is that the comic moments aren't funny, the powerful moments fail to move, and the wonderful music is left ho-hum. I realize that the extraordinary cast of the original production of Assassins presents a dauntingly high standard for everyone else to compare to, but the college productions I've seen were better than this. "Everybody's got a right/To their dream." So begins Stephen Sondheim's 1991 showAssassins--and in this case, said dreams involve killing an American president. The characters form a veritable rogues' gallery, including John Hinckley, Lee Harvey Oswald and John Wilkes Booth of course, but also half-forgotten luminaries such as Leon Czolgosz (who killed McKinley) and "Squeaky" Fromme (who aimed for Gerald Ford with an unloaded gun). While Sondheim's lyrics are trenchant as ever, his music, which ranges from Sousa pomp to clever little waltzes, is technically brilliant but also oddly uninvolving. (Many fans prefer the recording of the 1991 Off-Broadway version, though "Something Just Broke," which was added to the 1992 London production, makes its recorded debut here.) Still, there are several high points. In "Unworthy of Your Love," for instance, Hinckley and Fromme wax poetic about their unrequited love for Jodie Foster and Charles Manson, respectively, in a Burt Bacharach-style ballad that's deliberately (I hope!) sappy. And of course as with most Sondheim shows, the cast of this revival--Michael Cerveris, Mario Cantone, Becky Ann Baker, Marc Kudisch, Denis O'Hare--is very good.--Elisabeth Vincentelli Rerations < Assassins (2004 Broadway Revival Cast) > < Spring Awakening (2006 Original Broadway Cast) > < Assassins (1991 Original Off-Broadway Cast) > < Company (2006 Broadway Revival Cast) > < Sweeney Todd (2005 Broadway Revival Cast) > freaks < 1992 Winter Olympic Figure Skating > < 1994 Winter Olympics Figure Skating > < 1994 Winter Olympics: Figure Skating > < Magic Memories on Ice (ABC Sports) > < The 2002 Olympic Winter Games - Figure Skating Competition > < The Official 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics (ABC Sports) > price: Fox Home Entertainment(1992-03-26) Rerations < 1992 Winter Olympic Figure Skating > < 1994 Winter Olympics Figure Skating > < 1994 Winter Olympics: Figure Skating > < Magic Memories on Ice (ABC Sports) > < The 2002 Olympic Winter Games - Figure Skating Competition > freaks < The 2002 Olympic Winter Games - Figure Skating Competition > < 1998 Olympic Winter Games: Figure Skating Competition > < 1992 Winter Olympic Figure Skating > < The 2002 Olympic Winter Games - Figure Skating Exhibition > < Magic Memories on Ice (ABC Sports) > < 1994 Winter Olympics Figure Skating > price:Westlake Entertainment(2002-05-21) customer 's review (definately worth watching!) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() (Beautiful Skating!) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() (Great tape for figure skating fans.) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() (Not worth the money) ![]() (I love it!) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I loved this video!the mens and pairs freeskates are a must see. though it is edited to center mostly on the Russians and the Americans, this video does have clips of other skaters.I highly recommend this! Just a spectacular show in vibrant colors, and great detail. A wonderful tape to own if you were there, missed taping on tv, or didn't get a good signal. This tabe is clear and perfect! There is also a companion volume "Figure Skating the Exhibition Salt Lake 2002" that is even better! I do not agree with some of the comments made by some of the reviewers of this tape. The controversy over the win by the Russian pair was warrented. Anton stepped out of his double axel,Elena leaned forward on the throw triple, the Russian death spiral was nowhere near the Canadians and the Russian lifts only covered half the ice surface while the Canadians covered the full length of the ice.The Canadians connected with the audience better as well as connecting to themselves. The program drew you in and ranged from new found love to the total depths of despair in losing a loved one, as in the movie Love Story.I think Sale and Peltier gave one of the all time great figure skating performances. They deserved 6's.But don't take my word for it. The commentators of this event, who are themselves figure skaters, said the Canadian performance was perfect and were shocked, as I was when the marks came up.Sale and Peltier finally received a gold medal, but there marks will remain the same for history. What a shame!!!! Please don't buy this product. I made the mistake of purchasing it, hoping to view Shen and Zhao's long program. NBC's bias was enough to keep me from viewing the tape more than once. The American pairs team (Ina/Zimmerman), who placed FIFTH, were incorporated into the video. However, Shen and Zhao of China, who were awarded the BRONZE medals, were not included. Only brief comments were made about their programs and certain maneuvers which were a few seconds in length were shown. It does not bother me that Ina and Zimmerman were shown. If they had included Shen and Zhao's long program and the American pair IN ADDITION to the medalists, that would have been fine with me. I was upset because the Americans were included INSTEAD of the Chinese team. As an Asian immigrant, I find this particularly offensive. Please don't waste your money. I watch this video once a week! I love so many of the programs: Jealousie (Sale and Pelletier-Short Program), Love Story (Sale and Pelletier-Long Program), Timothy Goebel-Long Program, The Man in the Iron Mask (Alexei Yagudin-Long Program), and Sarah Hughes-Long Program. The movies also gives good information on the pairs' controversey and the rivelry between Alexei Yagudin (men's gold medalist) and Yevgeny Plushenko (men's silver medalist). When I saw this I was hoping it would be the entire 1994 Olympic Figure Skating competition and not just the highlights. They left out a lot of moments in the ladies figure skating, including the upsetting performances by Josee Chouinard and Surya Bonaly... and they didn't show the entire Usova and Zhulin performance, only about 15 seconds of it! The exhibition was very disappointing I thought, because they left out a lot of it... both tapes are 60 minutes long, and they seem like they were thrown together very quickley... The most disappointing to me was the Ladies events, I thought it was just too short and they left too much out (including Nancy Kerrigan's bad attitude, they made it look like she was a good sport)! They didn't show ANY of the podium ceremonies either! Despite these flaws, it was entertaining to watch, just don't have incredibly high expectations of it! I was given this video as a gift and have thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it over and over and over.....The commentary, the skating, the Tonya/Nancy fiasco, the Baiul collision and victory, the costumes and the music come together in such a way that one feels all of the intrigue and excitement of the 1994 Olympics all over again. I am so glad I got this video. All the performances are great, especially Gordeeva and Grinkov's. END I was so pleased to finally have the chance to watch the 1994 Winter Olympics on tape, and the coverage was great. Of all four Olympic champions, CBS showed complete long programs that were uninterrupted, plus Nancy Kerrigan's complete long and short programs, and wonderful interviews. This is a must have for any figure skating fan!
